Frequently Asked Questions
Dear Delegates, these are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Malmö Model United Nations conference. If your questions are still not answered, do not hesitate to contact us for further information! The original Q&A was featured on MUN Planet and you can find it here.
- When and where will the MUNmö 2018 conference happen?
The Model United Nations of Malmö 2018 will take place from the 15th to the 18th of November at Malmö University in Malmö, Sweden.
- How much is the conference fee for MUNmö 2018? What is included in the fee?
The conference fee is 450 SEK (50€) for the Early Bird round and 550 SEK (60€) for the general round. The fee covers all social events, lunches on all conference days, coffee breaks, as well as an opening and gala dinner.
- How many participants will there be at MUNmö 2018?
This number is not yet clear, as the application process has just now opened. From previous rounds, we can estimate around 100 participants.
- How long will MUNmö 2018 conference be?
MUNmö 2018 will last four days in total. The first day will be for registration, preparation sessions, and the opening ceremony. The following days will consist of social events and committee meetings and will be wrapped up by the closing ceremony on Sunday.
- Is accommodation included in the conference fee? If not, what are my accommodation options?
Accommodation is not included in the conference fee. However, we have several options outlined.
The Student Union Building has space for around 16 participants. There will be beds, showers, heating, etc., but nothing too fancy. This fills up fast, so delegations and participants living further away have priority.
We will also set up a delegate hosting system, which will allow people to host participants or find hosts through a google form. The form is available now, however it will be necessary to think about until later stages. Those lovely people who offer to host will get a fee reduction!
If neither of those options work out, we have also listed hostels and hotels in Malmö. For more information, click here! Keep in mind that the accommodation page is still being updated.
A last resort could be to find a host or apartment in Malmö or sourrounding cities on sites like Couchsurfing.com or Airbnb.com. However, the Executive Board does not take any responsibility for these choices.
- What committees will MUNmö 2018 simulate?
MUNmö 2018 simulates two classical committees - The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the Human Rights Council (HRC) - and adds two new councils simulated for the first time at MUNmö - UNESCO and UN Women.
Each committee will have two respective topics. We reserve an option to have only one large topic in the UNSC. These topics will be announced at the beginning of the delegate application process and will be thoroughly chosen by the academic team of the Executive Board.
- To what airport should I fly when coming to Malmö? In regards to this, has the conference established cooperation with airlines flying to the local airport?
There are two main options to fly to Malmö. The first one is to use Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup Airport), which is very well connected with different airlines in and outside of Europe. From Kastrup, you can take a train straight to Malmö that costs around 105 SEK one way and takes only 15 minutes. Please be aware that due to changed immigration laws, it is necessary to have a national ID card or passport on you, otherwise, the security personnel and/or police may refuse you entry into Sweden.
The second option is using the smaller Malmö Airport, which hosts fewer connections then Copenhagen, but serves a few different flight companies, especially from Eastern Europe.
MUNmö 2018 has not established a cooperation with any airlines. For more information, visit "Getting to Malmö".
- Are there other options to come to Malmö then flying?
Using the airplane might not always be the cheapest or most environmentally friendly option to get to Malmö, especially when travelling within Sweden or surrounding countries. As the Executive Board is highly concerned about Mother Earth, we appeal to your consciousness to consider the most sustainable option for your journey.
Malmö is well connected to the rest of Sweden and parts of Denmark via an extensive and reliable train network. On Swebus, Go Euro, Flixbus, and other sites you can find bus connections. Another possibility would be to use sites such as www.blablacar.com, international trains, or group up to travel together.
- What does the MUNmö 2018 social schedule look like?
At the moment, we are preparing several socials for our delegates. One highlight of each year's conference is our gala dinner in Malmö City Hall with esteemed guests. Information about the socials will be frequently updated in the weeks leading up to the conference. Rest assured that we have many treats to reveal for you and MUNmö 2018 will be guaranteed fun!
- What are 3 MUST SEE places in Malmö?
Three must see places are: (1) Turning Torso - the highest building in Scandinavia and an architectural masterpiece; (2) Malmöhus slott - a castle from 16th century;and (3)Möllevangstorget - a hub for social life and full of restaurants from different culinary cultures.
